The Bolder Boulder Approaches

In 13 days my ever-supportive wife and I will be in Boulder, CO where 50,000 runners instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I’m talking about the Bolder Boulder 10K. Despite the fact that it has always been the most important race of the year to me, I seem to be lacking in the motivation department lately. I have not eagerly bounced out the door to go on my runs, I have had to be coerced and convinced by my ever-supportive wife. Unless my motivation improves, I’ll probably end up taking a week or four off after the Bolder Boulder.

Speaking of my ever-supportive wife, I think that she has a post coming up sometime this week which is good because my lack of motivation is also seeping into my blog writing duties. In the meantime, prepare yourself for a long string of posts about the upcoming Bolder Boulder including one where I set a blatantly unattainable goal for myself. As for today, you can head on over to CRN and check out my article on Race Shirt Etiquette.

Good luck on the 10K. I love the Motivation poster! It's something I need to hang up in my classroom.

I read your t-shirt post as well as the link to the 'unspoken rules' of t-shirt wearing- and I really enjoyed it! But, to add a personal gripe: people who sign up for and then don't train and end up walking (unintentionally---this isn't knocking the walkers) NOT for the purpose of getting in shape/aquiring the love of running/supporting a charitable cause/NADA, but rather so they can prance around the gym and town and whatnot with their Boulder Boulder t-shirt on and say YES, I DID RUN THAT, AREN'T I COOL??

This drive me nuts. This 'act' of 'fake runner t-shirt wearer' belittles the achievements of the real runners who have worked their @ss off even to say that they ran 1/5 of that race with pride or those that get up every morning at the crack of dawn to run JUST BECAUSE they love it.

Sorry. Had to get that off my chest!

back in 2004 we implemented an erp system here at work and as a result, several positions were going to be made redundant. as a really crass inside joke, i bought that poster for my boss.

I just rented Catch & Release (Jennifer Gardner) & they all wear Bolder Boulder T's & posters are up in the house in the show advertising this.

Pretty cool. Looks like a beautiful place.

ok, so maybe i had a little too much coffee this morning...my apologies! I don't know anything about the B.B. as I am in a difn't part of the country, but maybe it's different out there.

Best of luck! And sorry for being an @ss!

Half-Fast, now with half the fun for twice the price. Stop being so lazy.

Perhaps you need some new races to look forward to rather than the same ones every year?

Sorry. I hate being redundant.

This is one of my favorite posters...I have it hanging in plain sight for when ever I get to feeling unmotivational. Good luck on the upcoming 10K.

I'm with Nitmos on this one. BB may be your race, but come on, let's change it up a little.

I see you've found one of my favorite websites.

Maybe you need a new venture to boost the motivation? (free shoes aren't enough for ya?)

I love reading your articles on CRN because then I can be all smug like people who tell you that "the book was soooo much better" when you tell them about a movie you saw. I think "Oh Race Shirt Etiquette, I thought it was funnier when it was on his blog months ago, I guess you just had to be there". Sara

How can you pass up a post-race sandwich at one of the better sub shops in Boulder "Half Fast Subs" (halffastsubs.com) Just a short jog west through campus to the hill.

Brian - Now there's someone that should pay me to advertise on this site!

I've actually heard of them before, but I don't think I've ever been in there. Maybe I'll check it out someday.
